The Tetragrammaton...And The Inserted Vowels
by titch infor any and all persons who may have been associated with jehovah's witnesses in the past (or currently), you have probably read, or heard information about the origin of the name "jehovah.
" as explained by witnesses, and even other religious groups, the name jehovah is merely the anglicized (or, english-language) version of the so-called "divine name.
" the thinking is that in the original hebrew language, the "divine name" was originally represented by these four english consonants: jhvh; some persons think that it might have been yhvh.

It could just mean that an ancient culture invented it. It stuck for a while. But as that ancient culture's original language faded and morphed away, so did the exact pronunciation and transliterations of any and all of their words.
This has happened in other cultures of history as well. Does anyone think the ancient Mayans' gods care if their names are pronounced correctly?
Is it logical that an all-powerful God would make a big deal about his name only to allow it to be forgotten in a few centuries? Is it reasonable to conclude that he had his servants write a book that would be his primary communication to people for thousands of years in to the future, only to allow its original records to disappear?
The important thing to remember, is that there is no need to worry about ancient hebrew or greek. The watchtower has done all the research anybody needs to know at this point. If you feel the need to delve into such matters, why not make it a matter of prayer. Perhaps on your family worship night you could take one or two subjects in the Insight book and feast on the spiritual food within that publication.

The one thing I learn from the whole tetragrammton issue - is that if knowing God's name was so important, all those sly bastards that removed it and forgot to pass on the correct pronounciation and spelling were just too much for him to control.

Well factfinder, you're in for a treat. God has enlightened this board with special chosen ones to clarify this matter once and for all. There is no need to spend any more time seeking advice from those that have spent years getting a masters or doctorate degree in that subject. No, God has revealed it to none other than one of our very own. You won't find this corrected version of God's name anywhere else in the world except right here. And when you are made aware of this correction - you'll realize everybody else was off.
Of course, what few know is the real way the correct name of God was discovered by this privileged one, and that too has now been revealed:

Just got this from their site:
Further, we believe that the biblical events recorded in Genesis 1-11, including the special creation of human beings, are historical and recent, that the seven days of creation were literal 24 hour days forming a literal week, and that the Flood was global in nature.
I was rather surprised. I figured they would be more like JWs in rejecting the young earth creationism.
There are still a lot of similarities. Both believe in living forever on earth. earthly resurrection. millienium of course. Big dif is trinity.

Billy you just brought out another "It's a miracle" moment. I'm not sure at what point I stopped investigating plausible ways for this event to have occured.__ After a while, it becomes such a futile exercise.
Watching these folks in Kentucky try to reconstruct the ark is like watching a children's show about out how Santa Clause can reach every home, fit in every chimney, etc.
The sad thing is that these folks actually think their re-enactment is real. Just like the guy in the hall who gives the talk about the flood. It's just sad in a very pathetic kind of way.

Children of adult ex-jw's
by man in black inmy wife and i were both jw's for the past 28 years.
we left two years ago, we wrote our da letters and split.. my wife felt very contained, there was no room to grow.
i started to fade slowly, but when my mom died, i saw the complete lack of love from the brothers and that sealed the deal for me.. we have two sons, 22 and 26, who we raised as witnesses, not the die hard type, just try and do your best.

tellthetruth: First off thanks for sharing here. I realize it does take some courage to come to this forum and feed your mind on the abundance of information here, contrary to the instructions given to Witnesses. So first and foremost you have my sincere respect for showing up here at all. That shows you don't really agree with all the teachings from the Watchtower. I know you're not allowed to come out and just say that - but the fact that you took several days to look around, register, look around some more, and finally post - well those actions alone speak louder than any words.
You mentioned a lot of different subjects in your supposed final post. That really shows you've spent some time here reading up on a number of ideas that current and former JWs disagree with. Often, before one recognizes his own cognitive dissonance, he begins to make heavy handed defenses of the ideas he's no longer absolutely sure about.
Furthermore, when one is part of a closed society of limited ideas and information, observing free-flowing brainstorming sessions might seem scary. Coming from a society where it is forbidden to critique ideas that come from the top, the first time here you'll likely feel weird and out of place - but at the same time, most active JWs are here because they need something they just can't get in their exclusive religion where real open dialogue is prohibitted.
In your case, it seemed you needed to explore doctrines that deep inside yourself, you know there is just something not right with them. You also seem to have some emotional issues. Perhaps, you've been unjustly treated by someone in your congregation. But whatever your issue, you decided to lash out people you don't even know. Here on this thread, some sincere poster was expressing some remorse for how they raised their children when they were a Witness. You have no idea about the details of their situation. But you felt ok with letting down your Christian personality and posting your judgmental comments for the world to see.
And that's what it comes down to. JWs like to claim they're a chosen people - the representatives of true Christianity. But the fact is, a lot have been hurt. They've been treated like dirt and worse - often times due to the JW religion's neverending list of rules, that go well beyond the Bible. So they come here and try to work through it. And so what you'll see here is a lot of support, and real empathy. This love and support comes from people who JWs claim are no longer Christian. But occassionally we get someone that likes to beat people while their down, not offerring any sympathy. Lo and behold, in this case (as in most others here) the most unchristian words came from you - the active Jehovah's Witness. And thus, another permanent record has been left showing how JWs really treat others. Thanks for your excellent witness.
Anyway, I don't need to return evil for evil. It's obvious you're going through some tough realizations. At some point you might return here in need - And when you do, you will likely find yourself with a sincere warm welcome.
edited to add: BTW - I don't hate JWs and I find it rare when I meet any former JW that hates JWs. That's another lie you're taught by the organziation. When you're in an organization that classifies everybody by US vs Them and labels them based on religion etc. it's easy to think everybody else in the world thinks that way. But once you're out - one of the first things you learn - is how stop judging everybody just because they have different beliefs. There's a huge difference in not agreeing with a particular belief, and hating people that have such beliefs. I hope someday that you and many in your religion will understand that universal truth.

I kind of like Moshe's idea: "we're calling all the churches in the area for a report on how effective efforts have been in helping needy children in our community. It's been confirmed that we have xxx hundreds of children that live below the poverty level in our city alone. What would you say has been your church's most successful outreach program to help these ones? Are there any kind of local charitable drives that you're sponsoring that you would like your neighbors in need to know about? We also will be listing all that churches' various aid-for-the-needy options that are offered for the community. It's part of our comprehensive "community helping hands" list. So far, in addition to spiritual guidance, every church we've contacted has listed one or two programs available to their church members and the community. Some include drug and alcohol recovery assistance, senior visitation, battered women help, and orphan programs. What similar programs do you offer and what is the best way for those with that specific hardship to be contacted by you and receive assistance?"
I'll never forget the time I was out in service in NYC on an rv in the projects. Turned out the guy was a crack addict. First time I ever saw one in real life. You know what we offered to do for him - a bible study and prayer. Yeah I'm sure that worked out great.

unbelievable. Would the deceased approve?

I just had a thought. Is there any provision for service overseers/territory servants to keep the territories updated with registered sex offenders? I'm not talking about JWs that are registered and attending - I'm referring to all the sex offenders registered in the congregation territory. Do publishers know which houses these registered offenders live at. While it is public information, wouldn't it be prudent for the SO/TS to keep the territories updated with this information? How often are two sisters by themselves going door-to-door not really knowing who will be answering? I also know when I was a kid I used to work with my siblings in service or other kids my age. Even alone sometimes when in my mid teens. I had no idea that I might be knocking on the door of a pedophile. Neither did my parents. Anyway, back when I was an elder and ms this was never even brought up. All our territories had listed were houses where they asked to be taken off the list. The pederasses were part of the territory like any other home.
I think there are over 20 registered offenders in my old territory. Maybe the angels are just steering the publishers away from those doors?
